Before beginning Buffalo Plaid Coffee Company, I spent 15 years serving students and families in my community as both a school counselor and principal. The valuable experiences and lessons I learned in my roles as an educator added depth to an already strong conviction around fostering community support and connection. Another conviction I hold is finding growth through exploring both personal and professional challenges. In the winter of 2022, I decided the time was right to take a risk and merge my avocation of coffee roasting with entrepreneurship. From the beginning, I have seen Buffalo Plaid as another avenue through which I can connect with community members, albeit with a slightly different flavor!
Coffee has long been a reliable companion of mine in the early morning hours as I consider the day ahead. I have always found coffee to be a necessary partner that helps slow thoughts and bring people closer together. I eventually became curious about how that coffee made it into my cup in the first place. My curiosity led me down a path that introduced me to the farm-to-cup nature of the coffee industry, and eventually the art and science of coffee roasting. After teaming with professional roasters in the industry to gain foundational knowledge and hands-on experience, I was hooked. Instead of simply enjoying my own cup of coffee, roasting coffee offers me the opportunity to make your cup of coffee both special and delicious.
Roasting coffee offers me very much the same sense of purpose and fulfillment I embraced as a public servant. I take great pride in being able to offer my community quality coffee that is both responsibly sourced and roasted with integrity.
